Viewed: 117Kanaan Winery is a second-level classified family boutique winery in Ningxia’s Helan Mountain region, founded in 2011 by German-Chinese owner Wang Fang. It is a benchmark Chinese winery featuring Riesling, with multiple joint recommendations from top global wine critics. Located on the north side of Xixia Square in Yinchuan, it lies in the core wine origin protection zone, boasting highly permeable gravel-rich soil, semi-arid climate, ample sunlight and large diurnal temperature difference, ideal for Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The name "Kanaan" means "land of milk and honey" from the Old Testament, and its iconic horse label reflects the ancient meaning of "Helan", carrying the owner’s romantic vision for Ningxia.
The winery was officially registered in July 2011 after Wang Fang returned to China influenced by her father, a Ningxia wine expert. It covers 252 mu with 225 mu of vineyards planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, Merlot and Chardonnay, with an annual output of about 50,000 bottles. Certified with ISO9000 and HACCP in 2016, it uses Italian winemaking equipment, French oak barrels and a Sino-German winemaker team to ensure top quality.
Its signature series include Black Beauty, Little Horse Foal, Little Wild Horse, Dry Riesling and Crazy Fang Reserve. The 2011 Black Beauty Red was jointly recommended by Jancis Robinson, Bernard Burtschy and Ian D’Agata in 2014. The 2012 Black Beauty and 2011 Crazy Fang Red earned 90+ scores from Robert Parker. The 2013 Little Horse Foal Red won the Regional Award at Decanter Asia Wine Awards. It is the only Chinese winery with three consecutive joint recommendations at the "Discover China" summit, became the first Chinese partner of Bordeaux Vinexpo in 2017, exports to Germany, UK, Australia, entered Cathay Pacific First Class in 2025-2026, and represented Ningxia at ProWein Germany in 2026.
Winery Transportation Guide
Self-driving: 30 minutes from downtown Yinchuan westward along West Beijing Road, the winery is located on the north side of Xixia Square, with exclusive free parking spaces.
Public Transport: Take the local bus bound for Xixia Square from downtown Yinchuan, then walk 10 minutes to the winery directly, total commute time about 40 minutes.
Visit Reminder: The whole winery tour and tasting lasts about 1 hour. Advance reservation is mandatory before arrival to avoid missing the exclusive tasting experience of its signature Riesling wines.
